On January 23, 2013 Mrs. Denise Taylor received The Crystal Apple Award from Horace Mann, presented by Craig Harvey. She was nominated by fellow teachers at the school for all the hard work she does. Teachers said that Mrs. Taylor puts the needs of her students ahead of her own. Mrs. Taylor is an advocate for students that need early intervention.  Mrs. Taylor got our Raz-Kids going and I think our scores are going up because of it. Mrs. Taylor is a positive Person. Sixth-grade Medieval Day

Submitted by doug.lai on

January 29th, sixth grade students participated in the annual Medieval Festival.  Parent volunteers came and taught students about knights, jousting, clothing, feudalism, weaponry, food, crusades, and home life during the middle ages.  The sixth graders were able to enjoy a wide variety of activities at each of the stations.  They tried everything from creating their own edible peasant homes to shooting marshmallows out of a catapult!  The students loved all of the hands-on learning they were able to experience.

Teddy Bear Picnic

Submitted by doug.lai on

On Friday, January 22nd, the kindergarten students at Spring Lake Elementary had a Teddy Bear Picnic.
They were invited to bring their bear, wear their pajamas and prepare for a delightful time. Because they knew that just like in the song, Teddy Bear Picnic, "Every Teddy Bear who's been good is sure of a treat today.  There's lots of marvelous things to eat and wonderful games to play."
And sure enough, the students enjoyed playing and working with their bears.
