Omega Martial Arts

Submitted by doug.lai on Mon, 02/27/2017 - 07:36

Our Kindness Week activities culminated with an amazing assembly. Omega Martial Arts performed for the students and talked with then about how they can "Kill them with Kindness." When someone says something mean or hurtful you can tell them you are sorry they feel that way, and then give them a compliment. Students enjoyed watching the team go through fight drills, katas, and self-defense techniques. Three students even got to break boards along with them. After there was a raffle for teachers and staff for gift baskets provided by parents as part of Teacher Appreciation Week.

State Capitol

Submitted by doug.lai on Fri, 02/24/2017 - 17:58

The fifth-grade classes at Spring Lake Elementary recently enjoyed a fantastic field trip to the State Capitol in Salt Lake City on February 16, 2017. The students were able to view the beautifully renovated capitol building and were awed by its architecture and grandeur. They enjoyed learning about the vital work that goes on at the Capitol for our state’s citizens. While there, students had an opportunity to see the state legislature in action by observing in both the senate and house galleries.

The school looked amazing today and I got tons of great feedback from both teachers and staff. I know putting it together was a lot of work from a lot of parents, we pulled together and did an awesome job. Thank you so much to all who contributed and who will continue to contribute this week. And thanks to our great teachers!! #slhawksrock

Up Up And Away

Submitted by doug.lai on Wed, 02/15/2017 - 19:29

Sixth-grade students have been learning about convection currents. One student Kaylee Giles and her brother Braxton help on a hot air balloon crew.  Smiley's Dream brought their 90,000 cubic foot balloon to show to the students. They got to see it get filled up, launch a few feet, and help pack it up again. Something that most students will not ever see that up close again. Several teachers were able to ride in the basket. We are glad they came back down. Thanks so much to Keith and Marianne Evans.

Colors Of Light

Submitted by doug.lai on Mon, 02/13/2017 - 08:44

Mrs. Crook's class studied the colors of light, and students made
light and color Klimt tree art.  This was a fun way to implement what
they learned about the seven colors of light that make up the rainbow.
