Best Month Ever!

December was such an awesome month for me.  I loved the excitement of the children, the kindnesses shown by so many, and the fun events that showcased the diverse talent of our students. I am proud to be a Spring Lake Hawk!

A wonderful story was showcased on the Nebo District home page that was about our school.  On December 21st a young man and his girlfriend asked to meet with me.  The young man explained that he had been a student at Spring Lake more than 10 years ago.  While young, his parents had struggled financially and he often received a stamp on his hand reminding him that he owed lunch money.  He didn't want to add extra stress to his parents, so he would often go in the bathroom and scrub off the stamp so his parents wouldn't see it.  Now older, the young man is doing well and wanted to give back to his old school in a way that would really make a difference.  He made a substantial contribution to our school lunch department that enabled us to eliminate outstanding balances for many families.  This event touched all of us and I was completely humbled by this and many other services donated by students, parents and teachers at our school.  We have an awesome school community, one that I am proud to be a part of.

The students worked hard all month earning Hawk Bucks that they could spend on tokens for the toy tower, recess passes, board game passes, Hero Hawk keychains, cookie cutters or to enter to win fun prizes in a 50-prize drawing.  The faculty enjoyed E.L.F. week (Everybody Loves our Faculty).  Teachers wore pajamas and enjoyed a pancake breakfast, competed in an ugly sweater contest, played board games during an extended recess, decorated sugar cookies and slurped the "world's best" cup of hot chocolate.
