Horace Mann Insurance Agency recently came to Spring Lake Elementary School, in Payson, to award the 2009-2010 Crystal Apple Award to third grade teacher, Douglas Lai. Mr. Lai was voted the Crystal Apple Award by his fellow teachers at Spring Lake. Doug is quite the team player at Spring Lake. Besides teaching his third grade students, he has served as the team leader in third grade, mentored many new teachers, served as the school technology expert, and worked hard behind the scenes as the UEA representative for the school. Mr. Lai’s educational background includes an Associate of Arts degree from Rick’s College, a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Brigham Young University and a Master’s Degree from Southern Utah University. Outside of school he is currently the Scout Master for the Boy Scouts of America for a local troop. The staff of Spring Lake would like to extend their congratulations to Doug for an award well deserved!

                                              Celebrations Around the World

The kindergarten classes at Spring Lake Elementary learned that there are many world celebrations in December.  Hanukkah, Kwanza, and Christmas were the main events they learned about.  Dreidels were spun, candelabras were colored, and carols were sung. Families around the world spend special time together during this season and we were happy to learn more about ourselves and others.

Red Ribbon Week at Spring Lake Elementary in Payson

Red Ribbon week started off with a big surprise as students gathered on the playground and said, "No to drugs and violence". To launch off the Red Ribbon Week  students launched a red balloon signifying their willingness to stay drug free and to avoid violence.  The week included wearing red and purple day, crazy hair day, silly sock day, and wearing halloween costumes on Thursday to "Spook drugs out of our life!"
