Spring Lake Hawks,
I hope your children enjoyed the first few days of school as much as I have. There is something about filling a building full of children and watching the excitement on their faces as they reunite with their friends. It reminds me of my childhood and how carefree I was. I remember boat races down the irrigation ditch after school with my friends. Walking to and from school was as fun as being in school.
You may have heard from you children of the “Snake Method” we are trying at Spring Lake this year in the lunch room. This new procedure has been introduced for many different reasons.
- All kids have a place to sit and eat and don’t have to worry about finding a place to sit.
- Kids have a chance to sit with new people and make new friends.
- Having some organization in the lunchroom makes it a much more enjoyable place to be and eat.
- The lunchroom is cleaner and not nearly as many spilled lunch trays from kids running into each other.
We will continue to try the snake method for another few days and see if it’s something we want to continue as a school. The biggest complaint I have had from students is that they don’t get to sit by their best friend at lunch. They can remedy this problem by standing next to them in line or worst case scenario is that they eat with new friends for 10 minutes and then go meet their other friends out at recess.
I want to close by saying thank you one more time for the warm welcome and support I have had since joining the staff at Spring Lake.
