What's Hatching In Kindergarten

Submitted by doug.lai on

Look what's hatching in Kindergarten at Spring Lake Elementary! We have kicked off our farm unit with some adorable baby chicks. We projected the chicks up on our white boards using our document cameras. Each class was able to see chicks hatch out of their eggs.  What a fun filled time in Kindergarten!

Sedimentary Sandwiches

Submitted by celeste.penick on

In my class in 4th grade we are learning about the rock cycle. In class we made a sedimentary sandwich.  We got one piece of white bread and one piece of wheat bread.  We had raisins, cream cheese(it was supposed to be peanut butter), crushed graham crackers, grape jelly, and strawberry jelly.  The raisins were representing rocks, the cream cheese was mud, the jelly was decaying plants and animals, the white bread was sand, the wheat bread was mud and the graham crackers were dust.  We were divided into groups of 3 or 4.

Animal Bite Prevention

Submitted by doug.lai on

Third-grade classes at Spring Lake have been writing informational reports on animals they have researched. Each student picked an animal to write about and then researched to find information telling about the animal’s description, what it eats, its habitat, and other unique qualities. As an extension of this research they were fortunate to have Kierstan Munford, with the North Utah Valley Animal Shelter, come and give them a presentation about animal bite prevention. Ms.

After reading the book Arlo Needs Glasses in art, Mrs. Sunny Howard taught her students how to draw Arlo the dog.  Students then chose the type of glasses they wanted on Arlo and began designing them. Arlo is one lucky dog.

Space The Final Frontier

Submitted by doug.lai on

If you were to have a planet, what would you call it? What would it look like?  Students at Spring Lake Elementary were able to create their own planets through finger painting. They would use their pictures to create their own planet and neighboring planets.

After designing their land mass and neighboring planets they learned how to make  a dome (their city). Shading was also added to make their planets look 3D.  It was a really cool outer space look.
