We are surely grateful for the invitation from Representative Doug Welton to participate in the Civics Engagement Day at the State Capitol. The students had a brief introduction to the legislative (law making) process followed by instructions of how they would conduct themselves in the mock session. Then they took their places on the floor of the House of Representatives and began presenting and debating the bills. They were able to use the desks, key pads and microphones to conduct business. Their limited experience with our class legislative sessions surely helped, but they really stepped up and were very engaged for over an hour. We even had the Speaker of the House, Brad Wilson, and State School Superintendent, Sydnee Dickson, pop in for a minute to observe the proceedings. It was just a super day.
