Fifth-grade Battle Boot Camp

On September 13th, Spring Lake Elementary 5th Grade students converged on Payson Memorial Park for a memorable day of teamwork and physical activity at their Battle Boot Camp. Thanks to the help of many willing parents, the students enjoyed several rotation activities in their Boot Camp training. They ran an obstacle course and had "marching practice".  They also strapped on  2x4s.  in groups to demonstrate their skills in working together.  They also practiced reconnaissance by  participating in a scavenger hunt through out the park. They even tried their hand at engineering skills by building model signal towers with spaghetti and gumdrops, and yes, some of the supplies were eaten.

The weather couldn't have been better for most of the day. It did begin to rain a bit as the Flour Bomb Battle began. Students played Steal the Flag in massive teams lobbing flour loaded nylon stockings at the opposing players. Things got a little sticky as the rain continued, but the "soldiers" were undaunted. Even on the forced march back to the school, as the rain poured down torrentially, the students exhibited great morale and splashed in the puddles. They were soaked when they reached the school, but that simply added to the memories of a great day.
