The fifth-grade classes at Spring Lake Elementary recently enjoyed a fantastic field trip to the State Capitol in Salt Lake City on February 13, 2014. The students were able to view the beautifully renovated capitol building and were awed by its architecture and grandeur. They enjoyed learning about the symbolism in the decor and about the seismic upgrades which make the capitol much safer. While there, students had an opportunity to see the state legislature in action by observing in both the senate and house galleries. Students were recognized on the floor for being in attendance by Senator Deidre Henderson and Representative Marc Roberts. These legislators later took the time to meet with students, share their experiences and answer questions about working in government. After that, students participated in a scavenger hunt which allowed them to explore and become more familiar with the capitol building. The day ended with the students being given a private tour of the building. This field trip served as a wonderful culmination for their Constitution unit.
