We start out the beginning of the year really working on team work and cooperation. One of the best ways, Mr. Atkin's fourth -grade class does this is through a faith hike. They go up on the mountain behind the school and become a guide. A guides job, is to help their partners, through communication and caring, to get past all the obstacles put there by mother nature. One student is blindfolded and the guide student, helps the blind along the trail. At the half way point they switch rolls. We talk about trust, communication, and caring. Then we try to emphasize how important those things our in our classroom. Kids had tons of fun, and along the way they got to learn about Utah's plants, animals, and rocks, three of the huge goals in fourth grade science. They even get to see their teacher eat a grasshopper. Ewwwww.
