Mr. Lai's Class Guessed Dallas, Texas

Submitted by doug.lai on

Today we won our first real #MysterySkype, we asked yes or no questions to another class we met on Skype. We found out that they were in the United States, that they were in a large state. So we guessed Texas. Then we found out the city was between A and G. Then we narrowed down some more until one student guessed they were in Dallas, Texas. It was 95 degrees there already. The students wore uniforms, and their class was all girls. Thanks @hockadayschool

We are excited that Nebo School District has partnered with UVU School of Education to provide this Robotics experience for elementary students. Students today worked with the display module to show a sun rising, and setting on their robot.  What is “Learning Through Robotics?”

Reading is Magic

Magician Mike Hamilton talked to students about the importance of reading. He struggled as a child to read, but fell in love with magic books, which led him to where he is today.

Many students got to help participate in him magic show. Teachers also took part, and were left speechless, as to how the trick was done. Students also learned how one of the tricks was done. Of course a magician never reveals all, and we were amazed when his Yahtzee dice it was taken to another level.

Mr. Lai's Class Mystery Skypes

Submitted by doug.lai on

#MysterySkype is an educational game, invented by teachers, played by two classrooms on Skype. The aim of the game is to guess the location of the other classroom by asking each other questions.  We worked on some geography skills, and critical thinking skills as we Skyped with Mrs. Evans a former teacher at Spring Lake. The class took turns answering questions. They were able to guess in 17 questions that she is now in Columbus, Georgia.
